can't sleep

It's 3:29 am. Saturday March 1st. I've been awake since 1:30. This is a typical pattern for me. Awake suddenly in the middle of the night, brain racing, despite having gone to bed exhausted.

Most times it's stress, worry that I forgot to call so-and-so about something for the new house, or for something at our current house (soon to be the old house!). Tonight (morning) I think it's just excitement. We're one week away from the move!!!!

I've made a lot of major purchases in the past 24 hours to get ready for when we move in. I hate to wait for anything, and I want to move in knowing that the place will be put together, or nearly so. I don't want to wait a month for this or that.

I've got the blinds ordered. They'll arrive around the 14th. Beautiful, but pricey. A big upgrade from my very cheap vinyl blinds to lovely Silhouette and Duoette shades from Hunter Douglas. They'll be gorgeous!

And today I signed off on the final design for my new studio! It will have a glorious 12'x4' cutting table. Yes, that's 12', which is 4 yards! Yay! And I'll have something like 20' of storage in shelves in the room dedicated to just storage.

Tonight what woke me up was the bed. Before I turned in at 9pm (and I forgot to record Stargate Atlantis!), I was looking online for metal dining chairs. I want a bigger dining table to fill the space from Pottery Barn. But I don't like the chairs, as they're wood and attract cats for scratching (yes, nothing stops them), so I've been searching for metal leg dining chairs, which are hard to find that aren't outdoor chairs.

I found some that were ok, but they just didn't look right. Too shiny, too frilly. And then I wondered if I could find them cheaper. I did, at a store that I'd never heard of. So I read the about them page, just to figure out how big/reputable they are. Turns out they are part of a big conglomeration of online stores.

Cool. I also need a new bed. Metal, black metal. We're moving up to a king size bed, and I want it asap. I'm tired of sleeping with 3 dogs and several cats each night in a bed that isn't really big enough. But again, it has to be metal (which our current one is), and none of my usual buying spots had one I loved (Pier1, Pottery Barn). Crate and Barrel has an ok one, which I'd settle for, as it's simple, but I didn't love it. However, this giant list of stores had one that was called bedroomfurniture.com.

The best thing was they had a section for king size metal beds, and there wasn't just 1 or 2, but a hundred! And they're really really nice, not cheezy! I found one I'm in love with!!! Only, I don't like their shipping. They do the freight thing, which is fine, and I know why they do it. But they state all over the place that the freight delivery won't bring it up off the curb, and I had better inspect it for damage right then and there.

I don't care for that. It's a huge bed frame, and I'd rather pay for someone to bring it to the front door. And that led me to search for the bed by manufacturer, which led me to here.

Awesome! The same stuff, about the same price, only the shipping is to the front door, delivered by people who only deliver furniture, not just some guy with a semi (I kid you not, the other place said if a semi doesn't fit on your street, don't bother to order!!!).

I was still thinking about dining chairs when I checked my email (you never know who is sending email at 2am, so I have to check!) and got a message from BallardDesigns (no relation to us, though Will did ask me once if we could get a discount!). I poked through their site and found some new spring stuff, and the perfect chairs!

This makes me so happy. Now I just need to wait for Will to wake up so we can make a decision. I could order this weekend and have it delivered after we move in.

Which reminds me, I still need to go order the new refrigerator, to be delivered Saturday the 8th. And a new mattress set with the basic bed frame (to which I will mount my new headboard), also to be delivered on the 8th. Oh, did I mention that the 8th is the day that we're actually moving in?

I need the bed, I need the fridge, and oh, I need a water dispenser, too. I better order that. I did also just place an order for some fabric from equilter, some batiks and some asian prints. Not that I need it. I'm still packing up my sewing studio, have given away 8 bags of fabric (that's garbage size!), thrown away more junk than I knew I had, and am still not quite done.

I don't need the fabric, but I want it! I want to make a new quilt for the king size bed, and I want to do a whole different color scheme. I want camellia red, azure and turquoise blue, violet, chartreuse and celedon greens, warm clear yellows, and a dash of brown! This is the color scheme I want through out the house. It's got so much light, but with dark wood floors, I think that this is a great opportunity to go for brighter pure hues.

Whew. I think I'm finally starting to unwind. It's only 4:08 now, so I could go back to bed and get a couple more hours of sleep before I get up to go jogging (it's like 60 degrees out, so warm it's perfect for jogging!) and then meet the Realtor at the house at 11am for a walk through.
